Fire (controlled burns)

Headwaters Prairie on a sunny, Sunday afternoon burn.

Nature’s cleanser: fire cleans out the winter-worn plant debris. The sun can now reach the ground, warming  all those young native seedlings,  that are just beginning to take hold. 

Oak Bluff woodland at the afternoon’s end.

The blackened ground will soon begin to turn a rich green color, and before the month is over it’ll be hard to tell a fire ever took place.
